As conveyance systems for people, goods, and services expand and improve, transportation clients search for new ways to reduce costs and improve efficiency. GAI meets today's transportation challenges with sound, well-tested solutions... solutions that result in cost savings, improved quality, better managed risks, sharing, and faster project delivery.

In the bridge design arena, our extensive experience includes simple spans, continuous spans, curved girders, thru and deck trusses. Our fully integrated, interdisciplinary teams handle all aspects of bridge rehabilitation, including retrofitting or elimination of fatigue-prone details, member strengthening, composite construction, elimination of deck joints, drainage improvements, scour protection, utilization of lightweight concrete, and seismic retrofitting. We also conduct bridge inspection services all the while focusing on minimizing future maintenance. Our services also include the restoration of historic bridges, which are prized in many communities throughout the country.

Bridge Projects

In addition to planning, analysis, and design, GAI offers a comprehensive team of specialists in construction administration. On staff we have certified construction inspectors who are knowledgeable of safety standards, construction processes, and material and workmanship practices, resulting in long term returns on infrastructure investments.

Construction Administration Projects

Our nation’s infrastructure is in need of funding and repair. Applying timely and efficient solutions is critical to bridge and highway work today. GAI’s CRM team understands this need and provides a full range of services to departments of transportation -- from geomorphological reconaissance and GIS-based archaeological predictive modeling for Section 106/NEPA-regulated alternatives analysis, to historic building surveys and National Register evaluations and Criteria of Effects Evaluations for Section 4(f) reports, to public outreach and Native American consultation. Our 30 years experience serving several state DOTs has allowed our transportation clients to reduce costs associated with full-scale excavation by developing alternatives to costly mitigation such as regional data synthesis reports and statewide planning tools. These creative and award-winning mitigation methods have resulted in several project awards and commendations from PennDOT, WVDOT, DELDOT, Md SHA and NCDOT.

Cultural Resources Projects

GAI’s Construction Services Group is positioned to deliver Design/Build transportation projects, by assisting the owner in the Quality Assurance and the general contractors in Quality Control, documentation, scheduling, and payment of the work. With GAI on board, our clients gain the confidence to tackle even the most challenging issues of complex construction projects.

Design Build Projects

GAI provides a complete range of eminent domain services to assist lawyers, appraisers, and other experts in arriving at resolutions for residential, commercial, and industrial real estate property acquisitions. Preserving and improving the environment takes a combination of applying basic physical, regulatory, and economic considerations with innovative ideas in planning, civil, geotechnical, structural, traffic, and environmental engineering. We understand how many factors often compound the problems inherent in condemnation assignments.

Eminent Domain Projects

Our highway design and design/build services are award-winning and uncompromised in the industry. We bring expertise designing two-lane to multi-lane highways, intersection design rest areas, service plazas, service roads, ramp systems, and pavement management programs. Also included are all requisite permitting, wetland mitigation, and air quality analysis. We are well-recognized for our innovations in urban street systems, including pedestrian-friendly design, unique signage, graphics and pavement marking, streetscape design, and utility coordination and accommodation. For busways, we provide mainline, terminal ramp and access systems, and bus maintenance, and parking facilities.

Highway Projects

GAI provides comprehensive surveying services for a wide range of applications relevant to the transportation industry, meeting the specifications of federal government agencies, state departments of transportation and local government authorities. Our expertise includes survey work in right of way assessment, aerial mapping control, cross sections, alignment layout, utility investigation, global positioning systems (GPS) control, topographic, bathymetric and hydrographic surveying, movement monitoring, wetland mitigation, and design, construction and property surveys. GAI also offers specialized surveying applications such as 3-D modeling, GPS networking, record surveys (as-builts), ALTA land title surveys, and verification surveys on projects both pre- and post-construction.

Survey Projects

Our experience with traffic studies and traffic control plans focuses on field data collection to accurately volumes, classifications, speeds, and headway characteristics, and vehicle classes. We also design and conduct origin and destination surveys. Our traffic control plans effectively minimize impacts to the traveling public, providing the maximum utilization of facilities.

Traffic Engineering Projects

GAI has extensive experience in conducting trail related design and construction monitoring projects, including trail design, State DOT design field view submissions, Plans, Specifications and Estimates (P.S. & E), drainage design and stormwater management, bridge/structure design, Right-of-Way clearance, utility clearance, and highway occupancy permits, and permit support. GAI has performed all of these work elements on numerous trail projects, highway corridor, public works, land development, transmission line, pipeline, and numerous other types of projects.

Trails and Pedestrian Walkways Projects

GAI’s Utility Design and Coordination team understands the potential conflicts involved with the massive network of overhead and underground utility systems that occupy a significant amount of space within the Right-of-Way. Through effective communication, scheduling and follow-up, our utility coordination team helps utility owners and roadway design project managers/clients successfully relocate or upgrade their respective systems. We take the guess-work out of the liability and destructive consequences of cutting or disrupting existing utility services in and around new construction projects.
