Pittsburgh’s use of sustainable practices to revitalize its economy and neighborhoods was one of the reasons President Barack Obama selected the city to host the Pittsburgh G20 Summit. Remediated brownfields and riverfronts have helped transform Pittsburgh, a former steel industry giant, into one of the nation's most livable cities.
GAI Consultants, Inc. has been part of those efforts to keep Pittsburgh a vibrant place to live and an attractive location for business. Our project portfolio includes the transformation of a former steel slag dumping site into a new city neighborhood, Summerset at Frick Park. This award-winning, $269 million project is featured within the prestigious G20 Summit magazine, whose 15,000 readers include the G20’s cabinet ministers, government officials, World Bank officers, Fortune 500 CEOs, and international journalists.
A current example of our leadership is GAI's work on the new UPMC East campus in Monroeville, Pa., a $258 million, 300,000-square-foot medical center. GAI designed the stormwater detention system and bioremediation swales for run-off for this high-profile project, which is being designed for LEED certification and is slated for 2012 completion.
At GAI, we understand that sustainability is much more than “green” issues. Because it is such a large topic – encompassing environmental impact, energy efficiencies, philanthropy, financial viability, and even human resources issues – our technical experts help clients define the essential elements of what they need to prosper for the long-term.
GAI’s energy and environmental professionals produce sustainability reports and energy audits. We also are tracking and analyzing emerging federal climate change policy and the impacts greenhouse gas (GHG) regulations will have on our clients. GAI provides GHG emissions and reduction reports, and develops plans that communicate their strategies to employees, customers, suppliers, and shareholders. We’re building on more than 50 years of delivering innovative, sustainable solutions to our clients’ energy, waste management, and emissions challenges.
As G20 dignitaries discuss global sustainability issues here at this week’s summit, GAI is proud to have contributed to Pittsburgh’s growing reputation as an environmentally-conscious, sustainable city.
