November 27, 2007. BBS Engineering, a power plant and boiler design consulting and engineering business, has recently joined GAI's Cincinnati office. A long-time teaming partner with GAI, BBS will broaden GAI's capabilities to fully provide its utility clients with power plant/boiler design services, including retrofitting, piping design, air systems design, boiler assessment and tuning. This acquisition brings two full-time and three part-time employees to GAI's Cincinnati location. According to GAI Cincinnati Office Manager Thomas Chaney, the success of the merger has already created a need for additional full-time staff.
November 10, 2007. GAI announces a new organization structure to support changes in the way the company provides services to the Transportation Industry. Beginning January 2008, John Wojtyna will become the new Transportation Group Manager for the Pittsburgh Office. He will take over leadership of the existing Pittsburgh Transportation and the Pittsburgh Construction Services Groups with the express goal of making GAI's transportation-related resources more readily available to all GAI offices.
Tom O'Brien, Vice President of Transportation, will become the new Vice President of Technical Design for the newly restructured Transportation Group in Pittsburgh. Not only will Tom's many years of roadway, bridge and traffic experience, and his award-winning reputation in the transportation industry be utilized in Pittsburgh, his experience will also be made available to assist all GAI transportation groups in other offices. Additional consolidation efforts include transferring Denny Semsick to the Pittsburgh Transportation Group as Director of Transportation Development and Bob Sciullo to Transportation Construction Services Department Manager.
January 4, 2007. GAI has acquired the firms of Valley Forge Laboratories, Inc. (VFL), in Philadelphia and Hartman Consulting and Design (HCD) in Orlando. With these two acquistions, GAI will be offering more diversified services in materials testing, water resources studies, and management consulting. VFL and HCD together will add about 55 new employees to GAI's 500+ person staff. VFL's and HCD's offices are located near GAI's existing Philadelphia and Orlando offices.
Founded in 1967, VLF offers a wide range of services, including geotechnical engineering; construction inspection; laboratory testing and analysis; transportation and traffic engineering; environmental engineering - noise studies/design; and research and special studies. HCD specializes in environmental engineering and management consulting with particular engineering emphasis in water resources, wastewater, reclaimed water, and stormwater reuse projects. Their management consulting services include utility valuation, expert witness testimony, utility rate studies, bonds and finance, certified appraising, and utility creation and certification.
