The Reality of Climate Change |

On April 16, 2008, President Bush addressed the nation about the complex issues concerning climate change. Announcing “a new national goal: to stop the growth of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by 2025,” the President laid the groundwork for the effort our nation faces to meet new climate agreement policies set forth by the G8 summit in July of this year. In order to reach zero emissions, the President indicated that “additional legislation that will affect global climate change” and “a comprehensive blend of market incentives and regulations to reduce emissions by encouraging clean and efficient energy technologies” must be adopted.
Strong, yet necessary convictions
The reality of climate change is something that many companies must face. It’s also a challenge that must be managed effectively. Over 30 different pieces of federal legislation have already been introduced that would require businesses to restrict their greenhouse gas emissions. And as the President noted, more legislation is to come.
Companies need to be ready to to analyze their climate change risk to identify areas of potential cost savings or cost increases of doing business, and the risks of stress on resources and personnel. They need help assessing increasing regulatory pressures and mounting public and shareholder activism.
Climate change, in fact, may be a company’s largest environmental management issue in the near future
These issues, and the risks they bring, can be difficult to manage. GAI helps businesses understand the risks involved with “global climate change.” Our climate change experts help develop risk management strategies by examining critical issues, such as:
-
Potential scientific and policy threats to an organization and how they should be managed
-
Greenhouse gases (GHG) inventories
-
Developing and implementing GHG reducing and offset projects
-
Measuring and verifying the results of those projects for reporting under Section 1605b or to other registries
-
Effectively communicating to your clients, customers, suppliers and employees efforts to address climate change issues
With more than 35 years of managing environmental issues and 12 years managing climate change programs, GAI experts help companies understand the emerging risks climate change has on their businesses.
