Transforming Power and Delivering Energy
Electrical substations are the nerve centers of today’s power network. They will play a critical role in the establishment of our nation’s future intelligent grid. Without these stations, the energy generated by America’s power plants would be impossible to transmit, distribute and use. From nuclear and coal, to hydroelectric, wind and solar, electric power is produced at very high voltages. To more efficiently move energy through a network of transmission lines, the generated voltages are stepped up for transmission and then stepped back down on the delivery end to accommodate the needs of our homes and businesses. Substations act as voltage converters, decreasing – sometimes increasing – and always regulating the energy on its journey from the power plant to the end-user.
With so much reliance placed upon our electrical infrastructure, substation facilities are in constant need of maintenance, and must be upgraded to meet increasing energy demands. This maintenance and upgrading must be completed under the regulation of a strict set of environmental permitting, reliability and safety standards. GAI understands that these are challenging, yet promising times for the electric power industry. For over 50 years, our team of electrical, mechanical, geotechnical, structural and environmental engineers and specialists has been providing substation services to clients in the electric power generation and transmission industry. And we continue to provide comprehensive solutions for upgrades, upratings, greenfield siting, permitting, expansions, and electrical automation and control systems. We have professionals with the knowledge to fit your project needs. As demand increases along with federal/state regulations and substation maintenance requirements, it helps to have an experienced team working with you.
GAI is ready to assist the electric power, transmission and distribution industry with electrical substation maintenance, permitting, and design solutions. For more information, please contact Jeff Cadman, Steve Miller or Bob Houston at 412.476.2000.
