Since the advent of NEPA, RCRA, CWA, and other environmental laws passed from the 1960s to present, GAI has worked closely with its clients to provide practical, cost-effective solutions to environmental challenges. Our engineering services for environmental compliance include Phase I and II environmental site assessments, UST/AST support services, groundwater modeling, air and noise impact studies and mitigation design, waste management planning, stream and wetland mitigation design and permitting, feasibility studies and remedial investigations, and water quality analysis. Our diverse team of engineers, geologists, hydrogeologists, soil scientists, biologists, ecologists, planners, GIS specialists, chemists, and industrial hygienists provide environmental services that are critical to preserving the health of the environment and surrounding communities.

GAI helps a wide variety of clients to meet stringent federal, state, and local air quality regulatory requirements. Our in-house resources and prior experience allow us to cost effectively perform air permitting, air monitoring, emissions control design, and agency-required permit and approval submittals. Our air quality services include facility surveys, inventories and audits, facility emissions and dispersion modeling, permit applications and amendments, risk assessment, and risk management design.

Air Quality Projects

A brownfield site is an abandoned industrial or commercial facility where expansion or redevelopment is hampered by real or perceived environmental contamination. Remediating brownfields is a challenging undertaking as permitting, public resistance, and environmental issues impact a project’s commercial success.  GAI helps private and public sector clients turn potential liabilities into invaluable assets with its full range of environmental site assessment and remediation services and planning and development studies. We evaluate the cumulative impact of topographic, hydrologic, geologic, environmental, and geographic factors on a site, along with social, economic, and legal impacts.

Brownfields Projects

Nationally recognized for our work in coal combustions by-product utilization, GAI has worked with public and private sector clients in providing economic, effective, and innovative solutions. GAI provides coal combustion product (CCP) disposal and utilization services to electric utilities, independent power producers, and manufacturers. We’ve worked with several electric utility companies on projects that involve the use of coal ash in the reclamation of abandoned mine lands (AML).

Coal Combustion By-Product Management Projects

Our experience with managing construction efforts for utility clients includes preparing bid documents for the construction of dams, pumping stations, and waterlines; providing construction administration, including pre-construction and project-progress meetings, and preparation of change orders; reviewing and approving shop drawings and materials; serving as liaison with government inspectors; providing full-time construction monitoring of earthwork, concrete placement, piping, and wetland mitigation; and conducting field and laboratory testing.

Construction Engineering and Management Projects

Environmental problems stem not only from waste itself but from its improper disposal and management. GAI is fully aware of the problems industrial waste generators face and the liability that accrues from improper waste management practices. We provide a full range of hazardous and industrial waste management services from remedial investigation and design to construction management. Our clients include federal and state agencies, public and private landowners, operators of electric utilities, and heavy and light industries.

Environmental Health Projects

We provide environmental studies that include siting, wetland delineation, watershed planning, stream restoration, habitat restoration, endangered species survey, biological assessment, vegetation and forestry management plans, invasive species management, recreation and comprehensive planning, and visual impact assessments for clients in a variety of service sectors.

Environmental Studies Projects

GAI provides a full range of GIS services from system planning and analysis to database development and modeling. By use of leading GIS software, GAI is able to conduct geographical analyses to interpret and display geographical data for various projects and provide impact analysis at a cost savings to clients. GAI can also use GIS technology to aid clients with preliminary project scoping analysis and site identification.

GIS and Data Management Projects

GAI offers solutions that help the business community, local and regional governments, and institutions understand the risks involved with “global warming.” Our mission is to help you answer questions and help you develop climate change risk mitigation strategies. We have experts in air emissions monitoring, energy and industrial processes, transportation planning and design, energy management, soils and forestry management. We can provide a very experienced team to meet your climate change strategy needs.

GAI in conjunction with our subsidiary, Valley Forge Laboratories, Inc., has over 35 years of experience in the performance of environmental noise impact studies and mitigation design. Our expertise includes highway noise analyses, barrier design as well as noise ordinance design and enforcement services.

Noise Engineering Projects

To manage, maintain, and improve water resources that are under natural or industrial stresses, we offer engineering services including hydrologic and hydraulic studies, dam safety analysis, flood control, emergency action plans, floodplain and watershed studies, stream restoration, stormwater management, and erosion and sedimentation control.

GAI also understands the myriad of operational and financial issues facing water, wastewater, reclaimed water, and stormwater utilities today. From determining utility rates and charges that satisfy regulatory requirements to preparing multi-year financial forecasts and annual budgets, GAI offers the necessary expertise to assist utilities with complex business-related challenges.

Water Resources Management Projects

GAI has a thorough knowledge and understanding of geologic and mineral environments throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Virginia. We know the problems associated with past mining operations and have developed innovative and cost-saving solutions to alleviate these problems. GAI has also been at the forefront in the design of wetlands for the passive treatment of Acid Mine Drainage (AMD).
