Arc Flash Analysis Print E-mail

An arc flash is often caused by accidental contact with energized equipment or dust, or corrosion build up. The consequences are an explosive release of energy often manifested in enough heat to melt or vaporize the electrical equipment. This can cause fire and the uncontrolled release of x-rays, or enough concussive force to tear the equipment into shrapnel.

GAI’s electrical engineers perform arc flash analyses to determine the level of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) needed by maintenance and service personnel to comply with NFPA 70E and OSHA requirements. These investigations also determine the allowable approach distances for non-service personnel. Using state-of-the-art software analysis techniques, our professionals report their findings and provide training to maintain personnel and equipment safety.
