GAI's architectural historians conduct documentary research, National Register of Historic Places (NHRP) evaluations and nominations, and surveys consistent with the U.S. Secretary of the Interior’s historic preservation guidelines. These services are supported by our database management software, state-of-the-art GIS and CADD facilities, a photographic darkroom, and large-format photographic equipment for stringent HABS/HAER processing requirements.

Our broad historic preservation portfolio includes large-scale architectural surveys for transportation and utility projects, surveys for municipalities as part of historic preservation planning programs, as well as smaller surveys, action plans, and architectural design guidelines for grant-funded preservation initiatives.

GAI's specialists have built and maintained excellent working relationships with State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs) in the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, and Mid-Atlantic states where we work. We have established a reputation for successfully obtaining agency concurrence on government and private client projects in a timely manner, and we are experienced in acquiring expedited historical resource clearances for Section 106 compliance projects.
